Holiday Party 2019 Carraba's Italian Grill

We always end our year with a Holiday Party in October.  Many of us are busy during the fall with different craft shows, parties, and events.  October is the perfect time to celebrate another year of the Las Vegas Crafters Guild.

Merriam Olds, Debbie Williams and Beth Pollock took charge of the party that was held at Carraba's Italian Grill on Charleston.  There were great salad and entree choices and the servings were very generous.  The staff provided a private dining room that was decorated for the upcoming Christmas season.

We had a gift exchange and celebrated some birthdays.  Such a lovely way to bid farewell to another fun year.

Fall 2019 Harvest Boutique Craft Show

Our fall craft show was held on October 11th and 12th.  With so many craft shows as it gets closer to the holidays, October turned out to be a pretty good show for  us.

We love doing the shows and we love how our members showcase their handmade items.   Just need to share and show off some of our talented artisans and what they create.

Obon Festival 2019

For the past three years, members of the Guild have been invited to be a participant in the Obon Festival in Las Vegas held at Clark High School. Tilda Silao, a Guild member has been the event organizer for this festival.

Here's Wikipedia's description of what the festival is about.

Obon (お盆) or just Bon (盆) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist-Confucian custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. It has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon Odori.'

In modern times, it has changed into a celebration and quite a big event in the Japanese community. The Obon Festival includes dancing by kimono clad people, some in Happi coats and even street clothes. Many people travel a circuit that encompasses Northern & Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona to represent their church and dance.

Japanese and Hawaiian food was sold for hungry dancer and attendees. The gym aka Exhibition Hall is where crafters, authors, and businesses offered their wares to everyone between dances and entertainment. Entertainment included Taiko drummers, always impressive and Hawaiian hula dancers.

Nine of our members participated in this years' event, Sarah Adams - Sassy Pants Creations, Linda Clark- Purses by Linda, Kristin Petronek, Sharon Takahashi, & Dana Russell - K & S Collage, Judy Osness - Embroidery by Judy, Cathie Godges - High Style Boutique, Merriam Olds - Little Me, Gerry Hackney - North Shore Collection, and Tilda Silao - Happi Hawaiian. Sharing some pics.

Thank you Tilda for including us in the festival. Very organized and well run. Proceeds for the Obon Festival help fund the Las Vegas Buddhist Society and the Sangha.

Looking forward to next year!

Cherry Blossom Paint Party - June 2019

The Guild takes the months of June and July off since people travel, the work in their studio and me time .  However, Denita Whitehead of Pearlized Designs, hosts paint parties for adults and children, and we thought it would be fun to have our own paint party.  So we did.

Denita showed us many different ideas for a paint party - seasonal themes, Harry Potter, Vegas Golden Knights and more.  We voted on the Cherry Blossom painting which represents Spring in her seasonal collection.

Our go to place was Findlay Chevrolet.  We did a pot luck and Denita supplied Everything!
From aprons, easels and of course, paint and patience.  A fun evening.  Very interesting how everyone had their own "style".  Sharing the pics of a great time.   Thank you, Denita!

Now we are ready for palette knife painting and acrylic pour classes!
